The classic pump with a twist: Jason Wu

Much like Jason Wu’s latest handbag collection, his shoes for fall 2011 are clean and structured with a twist. Perusing the uniformly shaped lines of heels there begs the question: is there ever a time that a classic pump is not a wardrobe staple?

Wu’s collection doesn’t have the creative impact of a Nicholas Kirkwood, or the ‘look at me’ command of a Louboutin; but these pieces have a classic appeal touched by just the right amount of detail. The classic pump comes in a select range of colours from metallic silver to black to red, then traverses into texture like felt and ponyhair. That key detail though is the gold spurt of deco-like rays that creep up the stiletto; much like Wu’s purses with their pentecost doves, this is the hint of decadence that gives the shoes their unique value.
